CAD Drawings

When you do CAD designs, you’re essentially creating digital blueprints or models using computer-aided design software. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

  • Conceptualization and Planning
This might involve sketches, notes, and brainstorming about the object or space you want to create.
  • Modeling
Using CAD software, we will build a digital representation of your bathroom.
  • Adding Details and Features
You’ll incorporate specific features and details into your model. This could involve defining materials, textures, colours, and any mechanisms or components within the design.
  • Documentation and Sharing
Once your design is finalized, the CAD software can generate detailed drawings and specifications. These can be used for manufacturing, construction, or further communication with other parties involved in the project.

Overall, CAD design is an iterative process that allows you to create, analyse, and refine your ideas before ever building anything physically. It streamlines the design process, improves accuracy, and helps ensure a successful final product.

The Strip Out

Stripping out a bathroom, also known as demolition or gutting, is the process of removing all the existing fixtures, fittings, and finishes to create a blank canvas for your new bathroom. Here’s a breakdown of what typically happens during a bathroom strip-out:

  • Safety First
Before any demolition begins, the crucial step is to turn off the water supply and electricity to the bathroom. This prevents any accidents with water leaks or electrical shocks.
  • Removal of Fixtures and Fittings
Everything gets detached and removed, starting with toilets, sinks, vanities, bathtubs, shower enclosures, towel rails, and any built-in cabinets or shelves.
  • Demolition of Wall and Floor Coverings
Tiles, wallpaper, vinyl flooring, and any other surface coverings are carefully removed to expose the underlying walls and subfloor.
  • Subfloor and Wall Inspection
Once the coverings are gone, plumbers and contractors will inspect the condition of the subfloor and walls for any water damage, rot, or structural issues that might need repair before the remodel progresses.

The entire process can be messy and dusty, so we will cover the work area and surrounding rooms with dust sheets to minimize dust spread. Depending on the size and complexity of your bathroom, a strip-out can take anywhere from a day to a few days.

1st Fix, Plastering & Tiling

The plastering and tiling stage is a major turning point in a construction project. It’s when the rough, unfinished interior spaces start to become the finished rooms you envision. Here’s a breakdown of what happens:

  • Plastering
We will have completed the “1st Fix” stage, ensuring pipes and wires are in place behind the walls but accessible through panels. Plasterers then apply a wet plaster mix to the plasterboard panels. This creates a smooth, finished surface ready for painting. They also plaster over any gaps or holes between plasterboard  panels, around windows and doors, and on ceilings.
  • Tiling
Occasionally it is required to lay a self-levelling compound to ensure a perfectly flat surface for the tiles. Tilers then meticulously lay the tiles according to your chosen design and pattern. They cut tiles to fit around fixtures and edges, ensuring a neat and professional finish. Once the tiles are set, they apply grout, which fills the gaps between the tiles and creates a smooth, finished look.

Things to Keep in Mind
This stage can be quite messy, with dust from plastering and debris from tile cutting.
It’s important to have chosen your final tile designs and colors beforehand, as this will impact the plastering schedule.
Once tiling is complete, it’s best to avoid heavy foot traffic or using the wet areas until the grout cures completely.
This stage signifies significant progress in your construction project, as the basic structure transforms into a functional and beautiful space.

2nd Fix and Completion

The final bathroom installation stage is all about bringing your dream bathroom to life! It’s the exciting part where you see all the separate elements come together to create a cohesive and functional space. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Clearing the Stage
The first step is usually a thorough cleaning. Construction debris, dust, and any leftover materials are removed, leaving a fresh canvas for the final touches.
  • Fixture Installation
Now comes the fun part – installing the bathroom fixtures! This includes:
Sanitaryware: The bathtub, shower tray, toilet, and sink are secured and connected to the plumbing. Vanity Units: Bathroom cabinets and vanities are put in place, along with countertops and sinks. Hardware: Towel rails, toilet roll holders, robe hooks, and other hardware are mounted on the walls.
  • Finishing Touches
This stage is all about the details that elevate your bathroom’s look and functionality: Mirrors and Cabinet Doors: Mirrors are installed above the vanity, and cabinet doors are hung. Lighting: Light fixtures, exhaust fans, and any decorative lighting are put in place. Flooring: If you haven’t already tiled the floor, this is when it gets installed (e.g., vinyl, laminate). Shower Doors/Curtains: Shower doors or curtains are installed for a complete showering experience. Silicone Sealing: Silicone sealant is applied around bathtubs, showers, and sinks to ensure watertightness.
  • Testing and Final Inspection
Once everything is installed, the plumber and electrician will do a final check to ensure all fixtures are working correctly and there are no leaks.

You’ll have a final walkthrough to inspect the work and ensure everything meets your expectations.

Timeline:

This final stage typically takes around half a day to a full day, depending on the complexity of your design and the number of fixtures being installed.

Discuss any specific requests you have for the final touches with us beforehand. This could be anything from the placement of towel rails to the type of sealant used.
